Indie Platinum is the brainchild of Rita Lorraine Hubbard, a former k-12 educator, and author of THE OLDEST STUDENT, HAMMERING FOR FREEDOM, and AFRICAN AMERICANS OF CHATTANOOGA. It was established to help shine the spotlight on great “indie” books and the creators who brought them to the bookshelves via non-traditional publishing routes.
The idea for shining the indie spotlight was born in the early 2000s, when Rita began reviewing trade-published children’s books for a friend’s review site. There were so many wonderful children's books out there and so few reviewers that Rita was happy to dive in and highlight as many great books as she could find. However, reviewing can be time-consuming so Rita was eventually forced to focus only on shorter picture books. Two years later, she started her own book review site, PICTURE BOOK DEPOT, which highlighted trade-published picture books from across the US and Canada.
Before long, indies who had written, designed and published their own picture books, flocked to Picture Book Depot to request reviews . Rita tried to oblige but there were simply too many requests to keep up the pace. She had to think of other ways to help, and... voila! Indie Platinum was born.
Today, in addition to helping showcase tireless indie writers and their amazing books, Indie Platinum's goal is to be an all-in-one; a place where Indie Writers can display their books, seek advice, follow other successful indies, and build a community all at the same time.
